Beginner Lesson: 1
How to Hold The Guitar
practise time required: 4-10 seconds, repeat time: daily
The guitar can be held in many different ways, but the most common way is to have it resting on your right leg, while you are sitting, and have the neck of the guitar going up vertically.
If you have a guitar strap, you can also have it resting on your left leg, by looping the strap over your head and letting it rest on your left shoulder.
Place your right hand on the neck of the guitar, and make a V-shape with your thumb and index finger.
Place your index finger on the first fret, just like in the picture.
The other fingers in your right hand are used to press the strings down on the frets to make
different notes.
Place your left hand on the body of the guitar slightly behind the bridge.
Your left-hand does the same thing, but it makes chords instead of notes.
In the picture, the guitar is being held in the "classical" position, which is also acceptable.
